The Taoiseach says the country 'erupted' last night when Daniel Wiffen won gold for Ireland.
Ireland's first ever male Olympic pool finalist won the men's 800m freestyle swimming final in Paris, in a record Olympic time.
Simon Harris says the country couldn't be more proud:
"On behalf of this country I say Go raibh milé maith agat agus comhghairdeas. You have made this country so proud. You are an Olympic champion. Thank you so much for the pride you have given to our country. Well done."
