Micheál Martin was speaking in Cobh today as the latest easing of restrictions takes effect.
Indoor events can take place with 60% capacity for fully vaccinated people or those who have recovered from Covid in the past six months and live music at weddings is also allowed from today.
Speaking to RedFM News, Taoiseach Micheál Martin says the economy is also recovering well as society reopens:
"We obviously need to be vigilant, but it's a good day, in terms of that gradual reopening of society. And then the 20th of September will be the next important milestone and then the 20th of October, and the economy is coming back in tandem and parallel with the reopening of society and the lifting of restrictions and the signals and the figures are very good now in terms of the bounce back of our economy, and we'll have to try and sustain that."
