Teachers are welcoming a review of the minimum age for wearing masks.

The Health Information and Quality Authority has been asked to examine if children under 13 should wear face coverings, including in school settings.

It comes as students return to classrooms this week.

INTO General Secretary John Boyle says whatever the outcome, members will go along with the advice.

"We're certainly behind a further review. The last time a review was done was august in 2020,. and at that time the people of Ireland weren't even being encouraged to wear masks during the pandemic.

"There was a change at that particular time, and whatever the public health advice review will say we'll be happy to go along with it."
