Tenants at local authority housing on Noonan's Road, who have been grappling with damp and mold in their homes and rats in their gardens have questioned the timing of a Council clean up

A large scale clean up of the area took place days before a planned visits by a delegation from Cork City Council last evening

Residents have been very vocal over the last number of years about the state of their homes and say they feel "abandoned" by the City Council in their plight to get them cleaned up and refurbished

On Friday morning, contractors for the City Council arrived at Noonan’s Road and began a clean-up operation which some residents claimed had resulted in "a minimum of 15 truckloads of rubbish" being cleared from disused gardens behind the flats.

Speaking to the Neil Prendeville Show on Noonan's Road last night Council CEO Ann Doherty said the clean up was just coincidental:

"I spoke to the maintenance people earlier and they said, Well, that was something that had been asked for and it was just coincidental. I mean, we're not that cynical. My understanding is from the council meeting. A couple of weeks ago, I wasn't there because I was on holiday that there was an ask for people to come over this evening but also for some cleanup to be done. So that's what that was about. So there's no cynicism intended."

Noonan Road Residents however say the clean up should have happened a long time ago:
