The community in Lombardstown is reeling from the loss of Michael O'Sullivan who died from head injuries sustained in a horse racing incident.
The 24-year-old jockey from North Cork suffered a serious fence fall in Thurles on the 7th of February.
He was transferred to Cork University Hospital to be treated for serious head injuries and was pronounced dead yesterday morning.
Speaking to RedFM News, Lombardstown TD John-Paul O'Shea says Michael was a huge part of the local community,
"He was a great talent for racing, and brought that up through his career in pony racing and right through to the track as a professional. Our thoughts are with his family and friends
and neighbours at this very sad time. I know the community here in North Cork will rally to support his family through this very difficult time".
