A formal Labour Court hearing will be held tomorrow in the dispute between unions and management at Aer Lingus. It follows talks which lasted late into the night, between the Court, the airline and the pilots union IALPA.

The Director of Public Prosecutions has filed an appeal against the sentence handed down to Cathal Crotty for an unprovoked attack on Natasha O’Brien, in Limerick city two years ago. Last month, the 22-year-old soldier, from Ardnacrusha, Co Clare, was spared a custodial sentence after pleading guilty to the assault. The decision led to nationwide protests - one of which was held at the courthouse on Washington Street last week.
