- House prices across Cork are continuing to rise. The average price of a house in the city now stands at €337,000 while the average price in the county is €291,000 according to the latest report from Daft.
- Restaurants across the country are in crisis and in some cases are facing closure. The warning comes from the Restaurants Association of Ireland, which is calling on the government for a permanent reduction in the VAT rate to 9% in this year's budget.
- The former governor of Dublin's Mountjoy Prison believes the only way to reduce crime is by educating people. John Lonergan was speaking at the Education and Training Board’s conference in City Hall and says he’s seen people in the prison system change their lives by taking part in educational programmes.
- Theatres across London's West End will dim their lights tonight, in honour of Dublin born actor Michael Gambon who died yesterday aged 82. While best known for playing Professor Dumbledore in the later Harry Potter films, he picked up countless awards for TV roles.
