A network of organisations working to improve Ireland's response to violence against women says the lack of refuge places needs to be urgently addressed.

The Irish Observatory on Violence Against Women report says the number of refuges, safe homes and other emergency accommodation strategies must be increased to 500 to reach the Istanbul Convention’s standard.

It says there are currently 319 refuge beds available.
