The Media Minister will meet with the incoming Director General of RTE today to discuss the spiralling crisis at the state broadcaster.

Minister Catherine Martin was due to meet Kevin Backhurst on Friday, but the meeting was brought forward after further revelations about the use of barter accounts.

RTÉ officials appeared before the Oireachtas Media Committee yesterday to face questions on a number of issues including a €2.2m loss for Toy Show the Musical.

An Irish man suspected of killing his Dublin partner in a Spanish hotel has been refused bail and remanded in prison.

The 30-year-old murder suspect appeared before a closed court sitting yesterday after being arrested on Sunday night.

He was discovered beside the body of 36-year-old Kirsty Ward, a mother-of-two, in Salou.

The suspect has not been named by Spanish authorities.

Cork Airport expects to host a record amount of passengers this year.

A new forecast by the airport says around 2.7 million people will pass through the terminal in 2023.

Almost 1.3 million people used the airport in the first six months of the year.

Over 1,900 flights carrying 280,000 passengers used the airport in June.

A status yellow rain warning is in place for Cork.

The warning, which is also in effect for Kerry, Galway and Mayo, comes into effect at 10am and lasts until 8pm this evening.

Met Eireann are warning of heavy rain at times which may cause localised flooding, while rain accompanied by fresh to strong winds will lead to poor travelling conditions.
