Three hospital porters at Cork University Hospital dubbed "The Three Johnnies" - have raised over €7,000 for the hospitals' charity using the bottle deposit return scheme.
They have recycled 50,000 bottles so far from the hospital campus with all the money going to the hospital's fundraising arm - CUH Charity.
The three - John Collins, John Keenan and John Lenihan - came up with the idea after they noticed the number of empty bottles and cans left around the hospital campus.
Initially they planned to use the money to fund a monthly Chinese takeaway but quickly realised the volume of empties could be used instead to raise funds for CUH Charity.
