Today marks the start of the annual Fuchsia fundraising campaign for ex-members of the Defence forces.
Run by the Organisation of National Ex-servicemen and women, the campaign requires urgent funds for veterans who have fallen on hard times.
The fundraising campaign runs until next Saturday and hopes to raise in excess of one million Euro.
Ollie O'Connor of the Organisation for National Ex-service men and women says a growing number of retirees are living poorly:
"Most people leave the defence forces, manage okay, but there is a minority, for various reasons, whether it's relationship breakup, issues relating to service such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, or perhaps an addiction, don't seem to be able to manage."
