The trial begins today of a man accused of the murder of a woman found in woods in Cork 42 years ago.
74 year old Noel Long, of Maulbawn, Passage West in Cork is charged with the murder of of 54 year old Nora Sheehan from Ballyphehane at a date between June 6th and June 12th 1981 at an unknown place.
The mother of three disappeared from outside the South Infirmary Hospital on the night of the 6th of June after she attended the Emergency Department for a dog bite on her arm.
Her body was found six days later in Shippool Woods near Innishannon and a post mortem revealed she had died a violent death.
Mr Long was arraigned before the Central Criminal Court yesterday afternoon, where he pleaded not guilty.
A jury of eight men and four women has been sworn in for the trial, which is expected to last four weeks.
