Louis Butler's intricate fingerpicking, reminiscent of old Americana, provides a form of therapy for himself as well as the listener. Louis reflects on how the actions of a troubled soul affects both himself and those surrounding the individual.
The haunting lyric: “We watch the bodies as they burn, without no sorrow in return”, encapsulates this perfectly.
Although on the surface Louis creates a peaceful landscape, it is merely another excuse to soar above a blanket of lies.
“What’s black and white is now unclear.”
This dark subject matter is woven into the very fabric of a generally happy sounding song. Only upon closer inspection does one fully appreciate the intricate detail of Louis’ craft.
