Netflix's hugely popular true crime series Tiger King is coming back for a second time later this year.
The show showed the story of big cat breeders in the US including the eccentric animal park owner Joe Exotic, real name Joseph Maldonado-Passage, who was jailed for 22 years for murder for hire after plotting the murder of animal rights activist Carole Baskin.
Netflix confirmed the show will return for "more madness and mayhem" in the coming months. The new series was teased in a trailer for the streaming giant's upcoming documentary releases. In the trailer we see brief shots of Carole Baskin, Jeff Lowe and Joe Exotic in prison with the caption: "The truth is unbelievable."
The first series of Tiger King became a huge hit, especially as it landed on Netflix as the world was going into lockdown due to the pandemic. In the first four weeks of it's March 2020 release, Tiger King was streamed in 64 million households around the world.
The directors of the first series, Eric Good and Rebecca Chaiklin have returned to document the next part in the story of these wild cat enthusiasts.
In July Joe Exotic's case was brought to the appeals court in order to get his sentence reduced for his role in the murder for hire plot and violating federal wildlife laws. The panel of judges agreed that Maldonado-Passage's case should have been treated as one conviction when sentenced as both had the same goal to murder Carole Baskin. The court has ordered the trial court to re-sentence Joe Exotic to somewhere between 17-and-a-half years and just under 22 years in prison instead of the original range of between just under 22 years to 27 years behind bars.
