Two people arrested on suspicion of murder over the 1984 Kerry Babies case are being questioned by Gardaí after being detained late last night.

The man in his 60's and woman in her 50's are being held at Garda Stations in the south of the country.

In January 2018 Gardaí announced a review into the death of Baby John, in County Kerry in 1984.

The infant body was found with multiple injuries on White Strand beach in Caherciveen, on April 14.

An investigation has been ongoing since 2018 into the incident, involving Gardaí interviewing hundreds of people.

Gardaí are describing the arrests as a significant development in the investigation in an effort to establish the truth surrounding the death of Baby John.

Superintendent Flor Murphy, who has been leading the investigation again appealed to the public for any information in relation to the death of Baby John to come forward.
