FUSS Ireland are calling on the Government to improve services after recent figures from Disability Network Ireland showed an average staff vacancy rate of 25 percent across Cork.
The South East Cork City service was the most understaffed in the county with a 46 percent staff vacancy rate.
Families Unite for Services and Support say it's impossible to get speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and other disability services because there simply isn't enough staff.
Rebecca O'Riordan is a parent of a child with a disability and a Cork advocate for FUSS Ireland.
Speaking to RedFM News, Rebecca says the HSE should be looking into why current staff are leaving in their droves, instead of recruiting into a system that's broken:
"Children's health and well being is being put at risk and staff don't want to work in an area where they have low job satisfaction. They know that it's an unsafe environment, families know that it's an unsafe environment. There's no early intervention whatsoever, there hasn't been for some time. If you had a child with a disability in Ireland 20 years ago, they were better off than they would be if you had a child with a disability today, and that's a fact"
