Attention is being drawn to a 'quiet cancer' that affects many people in Ireland.
A Cancer Awareness Event is being held today to educate people about neuroendocrine tumours, known as NETs.
Early diagnosis is needed for the condition, which affects around 2,400 thousand patients across the country according to biopharmaceutical company Ipsen.
Chair of NET Patient Network Ireland, Mark McDonnell says it's hard to detect this kind of cancer:
"Its a difficult disease to diagnose. Unfortunately it can take many years, with almost a quarter of patients taking up to five years or more to receive their diagnosis, with the result that many patients, in taking so long to get their diagnosis, have Stage 4 metastatic disease, which means that the cancer is incurable and has to be then treated for the rest of their lives."
