Cork man arrested in Cyprus in connection with arson attack

A 41 year old Irish man has been arrested for questioning by police about an arson attack which caused over €275,000 worth of damage to an Irish bar in a tourist resort in northern Cyprus.

The man, who is from the Blarney area of Cork, was arrested by police after the arson attack on Paddi Long’s Bar which is in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

According to the North Cyprus Daily News, the popular pub was set on fire deliberately in the early hours of Thursday morning while it was closed.

The fire was extinguished by local firefighters but not before the pub, the only Irish bar in North Cyprus, was completely burned and an estimated €275,000 worth of damage was caused.

According to The North Cyprus Daily News, the local Police Press Office said that the Irish man was arrested for questioning about the arson attack.
