Credit Unions could be allowed to offer mortgages and current accounts, if a new bill gets support.
The Independent Group wants them to be allowed to provide more services to their members.
Its private members motion will be debated in the Dáil this morning.
Independent TD Marian Harkin says credit unions are too restricted - and need to expand.

"Mortgages would be part of that as well.
"It might not be every Credit Union that would offer that, and it would be determined by the board of the Credit Union."
