Met Eireann has issued a status yellow warning for the entire country until tomorrow morning, with localised downpours leading to spot flooding in places.
A weather advisory has also been extended to 5am this Thursday.
Meteorologist at Met Eireann, Emer Flood, says the roads should be at their worst overnight:
"Heavy showers in the east are occurring overnight so hopefully they will have died down by the time people are waking up and going to work tomorrow morning. So hopefully those will escape the rush hour and although it will be raining for much, much of the day in the east, the heaviest are expected to be in the East overnight."
