30 million euro in funding over a three year period has been announced to support the nationwide Post Office network.
The Minister of State with responsibility for Postal Matters, Hildegarde Naughton says that the funds aim to 'help safeguard the future of more vulnerable post offices'.
The funding package will provide direct financial supports to post masters.
Speaking to RedFM News, Cork County Councillor John Paul O' Shea says that he believes the funding will help ensure everyone in Cork has access to postal services:
"The funding will also help safeguard the future of the most vulnerable post offices in our community. It is important that people have access to the quality services offered by An Post whether they're living in urban or rural Ireland, and this funding will help to ensure that there's access for everyone wherever they live in Cork county".
