The Finance Minister has disputed claims the government are relying on corporate tax receipts to increase spending in the budget.
Paschal Donohue says all of the additional money collected from the tax this year has not been spent so far.
In total, the government has collected €3 billion to date, from the tax on large companies based in Ireland.
Minister Donohue says although it may be difficult to hear for people struggling, they cannot use the money for state services:
"The context to that concern that we did here before the pandemic as well is the degree to which corporate tax receipts have increased in 2022. It has increased by €3 billion already this year, but that has been fed into a surplus, so our surplus is now €4.2 billion. So all of the additional money that we have collected in corporate tax this year has not been spent."
