A new Central Bank report shows the average inflation rate is due to be 6.5% for the rest of the year.
That's higher than previously thought - and could rise further depending on the war in Ukraine.
Minister Paschal Donohoe says there's only so much the state can do:
"The government has many competing pressures on the money we collect, on the money we borrow and we have responded to help with the impact of these price changes. We've also had to emphasise from the outset, we can't insulate either our economy or our people from their entire impact."
