A member of Cork County Council has called on the Minister for Transport to come to North Cork to see the condition of several of the busiest roads in the region.
Speaking to RedFM News, Fermoy councillor Noel McCarthy said that the roads are so dangerous that they 'have to be seen to be believed'.
Members of Cork County Council's northern division are seeking an urgent meeting with Transport Minister Eamon Ryan about funding for upgrading of the N72 and N73.
The N72 Mallow-Fermoy Road and the and N73 Mallow-Mitchelstown Road had been due to be upgraded but Transport Infrastructure Ireland delayed funding for the projects.
Councillor Noel McCarthy told RedFM News that the condition of the roads can't be ignored any longer:
"So we're hoping that Minister Ryan would see or maybe come down and visit both national routes: the N72 and N73, and see for himself the state of the roads because it has to be seen to be believed - how bad some sections of these road are. Dangerous. And as one of my colleagues said at a meeting 'deathtraps' in some cases. We really feel that we can't be ignored for any longer. We need action now and for funding to be made available. And I think if Minister Ryan sees this himself, I think you will see what we're talking about."
