Mourners at the funeral of Carrigaline man Shane Murphy have heard that he was "a champion, a friend, a family member, a son and a brother".
27-year-old Shane died after being stabbed, early in the morning of the 25th March in a house at Seaview Avenue in Carrigaline.
His father 75-year-old Weeshie, was also injured in the attack, and continues to receive treatment in Cork University Hospital.
A 42-year-old man, John Murphy, has been charged in relation to the attack.
A golf club and ball, along with a trophy, were brought to the alter at the Church of Our Lady and St. John in Carrigaline, as a symbol of his dedication to his sport and achievements.
Rocklodge Pitch and Putt Club member, John Tracey spoke at the funeral of Shane's sporting prowess:
"Rumour has it that players believed their only chance of defeating Shane was if they could schedule their match to coincide with a Liverpool match. This was the only thing that could distract from the ultimate competitor and player. Love as a community for Rishi and his beloved son Shane was taken from all of us all too soon. It just remains for me to say on behalf of everyone within Pitch and Putt, that Shane was a champion, a friend, family member, a son and a brother. Finally to say, Shane rest in peace. Thank you".
