A new 15 million euro Government fund has been developed to encourage 'adventure tourism.'
The project in collaboration with Fáilte Ireland has a strong focus on activities like swimming, climbing, kayaking and cycling.
It will also see the development of natural amenities such as mountains, lakes, beaches and bogs.
President of the Irish Hotels Federation Elaina Fitzgerald Kane says we're spoiled for choice with rural activities:
"We have so many opportunities in this country from a staycation perspective. We're perfectly suited in terms of so many outdoor activities. So whether it's hiking, biking, you know surfing, bog surfing even. This kind of spend is recognition of the value of tourism from a staycation perspective and from a community perspective as well and the timing is absolutely critical."
