New regulations to restrict so called 'whistle-to-whistle' gambling adverts and the use of credit cards are to be introduced by the Industry.
The self regulated code of conduct for the gambling industry in Ireland comes as the Government plans to modernise Irish gambling laws.
Sharon Byrne - Chairperson of the Irish Bookmakers Association - says the new code won't in itself solve problem gambling:
"But it is real progress on the path to improving protections for players, improving awareness for players, improving awareness for families out there that might be affected by problem gambling, and giving a roadmap to operators on how to further protect their customers and the people that are affected by problem gambling."
