Over 8,500 people are on the waiting lists for a driving test at Cork's 5 centres.
According to Freedom of Information figures, over 5,000 people are on the list at the Wilton test centre followed by 1,597 at the Mallow test centre.
In May it was revealed that 10,000 people across four centres in Cork were waiting on a test with the Road Safety Authority working on bringing down the numbers and the waiting time to an average of 10 weeks.
The Transport Minister has now been urged by TD's in Cork to tackle the long waiting lists and increase resourcing as a matter of urgency as people report wait times of up to six months.
Brian Farrell, from the Road Safety Authority, says the Covid pandemic is to blame.
"We are making progress in making progress with the driving test backlog, and I think it's important to remind people that we have been able to conduct driving tests in this country at a time across most of Europe the driving test service was suspended.
"We've conducted over 120,000 driving tests to date in 2021."
