The Federation of Early Childhood Providers says it's wrong that they had to close despite operating safely in older buildings for years.

10 thousand euro in grants are available for those who need to carry out work on their premises but some providers say that's not enough.

Elaine Dunne, Chairperson of the Federation of Childcare Providers, says this just one part of a wider funding shortage for the sector:

"Tell them what's costing thousands upon thousands and when you're underfunded for so many years there isn't that amount of funding in your bank account, so you're running at a loss. Anyway, and this has been a huge worry for the sector for a long time."
