The City Council says the lights on Patrick Street, Oliver Plunkett Street, Tuckey Street and Grand Parade are now on, while almost 7 kilometres of lights will be switched on at Opera Lane, Academy Street and the surrounding streets in the coming days.
The Council also also installed 60 Christmas trees across the city centre, the suburbs and towns and villages.
The switching on the lights has proved a controversial topic in the past few weeks with the City Council saying that no official switching-on event could take place for health and safety reasons.
Six Cork City Council staff members and a crew of 17 electricians were involved in putting up over 120,000 low wattage energy efficient LED lights.
The traditional crib will also return to the Lough in the coming weeks.
