A wind warning is in place in Cork with gusts of up to 90 kilometres an hour expected.
A status yellow alert is now in place in seven counties along the west coast - from Kerry to Donegal.
Cathal Nolan, from Ireland's Weather Channel, says there will be some dangerous driving conditions.
"There could be some minor damage, small structures that have a tendencies to blow away - for example garden furniture is one of the prime suspects when we get unusually strong winds, and of course maybe some small branches and trees. With the added foliage it gives it that little bit of extra drag in which the wind can catch.
"There is a risk of some minor damage, but certainly nothing too extreme either."
