Work is continuing behind the scenes in Cork's bid to host the world’s third-largest sporting event: the 2024 America’s Cup.
The Irish Examiner is reporting today that a technical team has visited the city to help the state assess if it can afford to hold the world famous yacht race.
The paper says the visit included stops at the Tivoli docks which could serve as the event’s technical base, and Kennedy Quay, which could be home to the race village.
The state has until the end of March to decide if it will proceed with the bid.
The state is concerned about the cost of additional infrastructure which would needed to stage the event.
Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Coveney has said that the last America’s Cup attracted over 2 and a half million people and was worth over 2 billion euro to the Spanish economy.
