Work is to begin on a flood relief scheme for Glanmire before June.
Contractors are due to be appointed by the end of this month and the works are expected to take around two years to complete.
The City Council says the €14 million Glashaboy scheme, which has been proposed since severe flooding in 2012, will protect 82 homes and 30 businesses in the area from severe flooding events.
Properties in Glanmire and Sallybrook suffered millions of euro worth of damage in that 2012 flood, with many people forced to leave their homes.
