Admissions at the hospital were impacted over the past week and a half due to a lack of consultants, with some patients being sent to the ED at Cork University Hospital for treatment.
The hospital says the Minor Injuries Clinic is operating as normal, however they have confirmed that admissions at the Acute Medical Assessment Unit were impacted due to staffing challenges.
In a statement to RedFM News, the South/South West Hospital Group says while the hospital found it difficult to attract suitably qualified staff, a number of job offers have been made.
The public are being advised to consider other care options before attending the Medical Assessment Unit at Bantry General.
Speaking to RedFM News, local TD Michael Collins says it's unacceptable that such a large area is left without a fully functioning hospital:
"Up to 110,000, 120,000 people catchment area of Bantry General Hospital have been told that they cannot attend their local hospital- who served the people so well... and I have no criticism of CUH because CUH do an excellent job but they're overcrowded, they cannot cope with what's there already without putting an extra demand on them. And I find it an astonishing situation we find ourselves in here in West Cork."
