Bantry General Hospital will be temporarily suspending hospital visitation effective immediately.
The hospital say the situation is due to significant challenges, high volume of presentations to the hospital's Acute Medical Assessment Unit and increased infection control measures.
Hospital management are advising the public to explore all other options before attending Bantry General Hospital.
They should contact their GP there Local Injury Unit or Southdoc and children should not visit the hospital during any circumstances.
Visiting will only be allowed in exceptional circumstances such as end of life or a parent visiting their child in the paediatric unit and the suspension does not affect St. Josephs Residential Unit, which is located on the hospital grounds.
Management of the hospital told RedFM news that all appropriate infection control precautions are being followed to minimise the risk of spreading infection among staff and patients.
