Visitors to University Hospital Kerry will be obliged to wear masks in an effort to tackle a spike in Covid-19.

There were 61 cases of the virus reported in Kerry last week which was up from 30 the week before.

There was a noted rise amongst older adults.

As part of the measures to tackle the spike in Covid there will also be restricted visiting hours at the hospital, only one visitor per patient per day will be allowed in general wards which will have to be agreed in advance with the visitor coordinator.

Visiting outside of the designated times will be on compassionate grounds only.

Located in Tralee, the hospital has seen a significantly increased number of Covid-19 admissions to the hospital along with a high level of emergency presentations.

The HSE continues to advise people with symptoms of Covid-19, such as fever, cough, or fatigue, to stay at home until 48 hours after those symptoms are mostly or fully gone.
