Water Safety Ireland says lifeguards rescued 206 people last August, who were at risk of drowning.

The RNLI is reporting a higher volume of call-outs, due to larger numbers visiting coastal areas in recent weeks.

Head of Water Safety with the RNLI, Gareth Morrison, has this advice for anyone planning a sea swim:

"If you do decide to go to the beach, please make it a life guarded beach. It's really really important that if you're bringing yourself or your family to the coast, you will give yourself maximum protection if you visit a life guarded beach. The other important advice is if you see anybody in difficulty today or even think you you see somebody in difficulty in or near the water is to immediately dial 112, or 999, and asked for the Coast Guard."
