A school in Wexford has put supports in place for its students and staff, following the death of one of it's pupils.

8-year-old Malikika Al Katib died after suffering stab wounds in an assault at her home in New Ross on Sunday night.

Her parents, aged in their 30s, remain in hospital today for treatment of non-life threatening stab wounds.

Local councillor, John Dwyer, is praising the young girl's school for putting resources in place so quickly:

"My grandson at one stage sat beside Malikika in school and I can only  imagine how those young children must be feeling and how their parents are attempting to deal with having to explain the horrific circumstances of how that poor child died"
