Wholesale electricity prices are the costs that energy companies pay for power which is then supplied to homes and businesses nationally.
CSO figures show in the year to December the cost went up by 10 percent overall.
However, month-on-month - from November 2022 to December the price went up for energy companies of 93 percent.
Elsewhere in the economy throughout 2022 the Central Statistics Office said there was a 39.5 percent increase in the cost of producing dairy and a jump of nearly a fifth in the price of producing fruits and vegetables.
Wood saw a 25 percent price increase, while there was a 22 percent jump in the likes of glass, ceramics and cement.
Construction products overall in 2022 saw an increase in cost of 16 percent.
