Women and girls are being controlled and exploited through the online sex trade across the island of Ireland.
Researchers from the Sexual Exploitation Research and Policy Institute spent four weeks in August and September monitoring online advertising of prostitution in Ireland.
The SERP Institute has called for stronger legislation, enforcement and resources to respond to online pimping and sexual exploitation
Speaking to RedFM News Mary Crilly of the Sexual Violence Centre Cork says the online sex trade is modern day slavery
"They are all very young. I think a quarter of them were Brazilian. A lot of the young Asian women are made to look even under 18, if that's possible. I mean, these are young women. Very often they don't have the language. They're either moved here under false pretences, or they're trafficked. This is not a life choice for any young woman. It really is appalling, it's modern day slavery. There's no other word for it"
