Women in the north of the city and county won't have to travel as far for a BreastCheck exam.
A new screening unit opened on the grounds of St Mary’s Orthopaedic Hospital in Gurranabraher today, bringing the total number of BreastCheck centres in the city to three.
All women aged between 50 and 69 are eligible for free breast screening every two years.
Speaking to RedFM News, BreastCheck Programme Manager, Suzanne Lynch says the existing units at St Finbarr’s Hospital and the South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital will continue to run as normal:
"It means that for the first time in a while, we will have a mobile unit on the north side of the city. So this will be a third unit for Cork women to access. So it's to ensure, in as much as we can, we do have a delay since COVID, to get to women more promptly".
