Yesterday's weather event in Crosshaven has been described as a tornado over water.
A Status Yellow warning for thunderstorms was in place for Cork and the majority of the country until 10 'clock last night.
A water spout in Crosshaven caused some boat damage.

Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather explains the rare weather event:
"These thunder storms obviously produce thunder and lightning, and torrential downpours, but they can also produce funnel clouds, which are clouds that look like a tornado that come down, and if they touch down, they become a tornado, but if they touch down on water then they called a water spout. So what we saw reported in Cork from Crosshaven was a water spout, which is basically a tornado over water."
